Bangkok's Sathorn district is full of stuff you won't find in tourist areas ....it has been Bangkok's most prestigious district for many years. It is rich in money, power, high rollers, high society,, expensive property and land prices. Also many historical events in Sathorn have shaped the way Bangkok has evolved into the modern metropolis it is today. I took a walk down the first part of Sath...

Expats can easily fall into alcoholism here. It's usually their own fault and it has a knock on effect on their partners, friends, relatives, finances, and overall quality of life. But some people drink regularly without any problems so why do so many fall into heavy drinking and alcoholism? Lifestyle? Mental issues? Relationship uncertainties are a common cause. A fantastic trip arounc old Sukhumvit cinemas, the former Ministry Of Sound nightclub, Klong Prem Prison, Washington Square, Soi Wanglee, Bangkok's tram system plus a few other landmarks now consigned to the dustbin of history. Bangkok's biggest cat cafe is not the typical poncey coffee shop with cats lying around harassed and bored, out of their ideal habitat, which is outdoors with lots of space and other cats to have adventures with. In Sathon there is a smaller backpacker area. Soi Ngam Duphli & Soi Sri Bamphen was much more hardcore than Khao San Road. The inequality here is very obvious, with a minimum wage so unrealistic, that every time a new designer shopping mall opens, it fails to convince most thinking people that this is an affluent, modern nation!! Sadly this narrative of poverty, inequality and power will not go away in our lifetime. Revisiting Bangkok's Khlong Toei slums, I had to come back to finish off what I started last time. T...

my old neighborhood-i lived on sathorn soi 17 from 2004-2006 in the muslim neighborhood. we had a call to prayer speaker right outside a bedroom window. the somtam place looked a bit different. we had to drive our car down that tiny soi to get to our parking space next to the muslim cemetery. as for the chinese cemetery i remember overhearing a foreigner call it “thai future park” LOL. brings back a lot of memories. we paid 7,000 baht a month for a small two story house. it’s still there at least it was in 2011 last i was there

Once again a great video. I have always enjoyed watching you put out new content. As the world changes around us it is good to know that you are still at it. I will be coming to BKK very soon for an extended stay. One of the things that I have noticed is a lack of good videos for hotels (not luxury and not bottom of the barrel) for newcomers to BKK. If you have any videos like this or now of any could this be posted? I am focusing around the lumphini park and sukhumvit areas.

Usually the shadiest and most aggressive people that I see in Bangkok are westerners and the Africans trying to sell you drugs. Not saying that there aren't shady Thai people because of course there are. Why come to SE Asia to just hang with the same people that you would in your home country? It doesn't make sense. And wanting to be left alone simply means that you want to be left alone. People trying to read between the lines like you have something to hide when you just want to be left alone like that is supposed to be something unusual. Those are the people who tend to have something to hide and the best way for them to hide it is to mingle within the crowds and pretend.

If you’re an atheist go ahead and check out now. Even tho IMO this absolutely applies to everyone, no exceptions. All these girl are very spiritual and pray to the supernatural gods that they believe in and it is a real thing. I am Christian. So I cannot believe in the supernatural natural gift of the holy spirit that lives within me without believing in the supernatural powers of the demonic spirits of this world. I could go into much more detail but that sums it up pretty well.

Amazing video. My first ever hotel in Bangkok was Miami Hotel around 2005. Now is too expensive for me after the renovation. They did a nice job! In my understanding, the last "breaking point" was the pandemic. It is most obvious in Arab quarters. The whole Nana is still not what it used to be. But what you have said, it's the progress. Thanks once again, very, very good job.

Saw pathetic old westerners retirees start drinking at breakfast as soon as 9am . Omg. That’s so sad and pathetic.when confronted they said it’s common in here which is a total liars coz locals drink only in the evenings after work or to celebrate something, not on a daily basis and especially not in the mornings

I first landed in Bangkok in 1985, at Don Duang. In 2009 I moved into an apartment in Lak Si and lived there for 15 years. In all of those those years I only saw a handful of tourists, so yes, it is a quiet village in that respect. However, in my opinion, with the development of the Red Line and the Bar/Restaurant area around Changwattana Soi 14, Lak Si is now Bangkok's best kept secret.

Prostitution is a Thailand's live wound. Thailand's solution is to let foreigners lick the wound for a fee. It has been very damaging for Thailand - attracting the scummiest global characters and providing viable income to the scummiest amongst the Thais.

It's all about freedom i believe. In the east, if a woman cons you out of all your money, you're the fool. I'll own that, i let it happen. In the West, it's the laws that allow women to screw over men, that powerlessness is worse.
